4 Common Mistakes Made When Networking
By Corrie Petersen

Networking is important in business. Networking can be hard to do. It can be difficult if you don't know how to do it or if you are a bashful person. Some people think they know how to network, but they still may make mistakes. Below are four common mistakes that are made when networking.

1. Out for your business only

When you go to a networking event, you really are not there to discuss your business. Don't get me wrong, you need to bring your cards, but you are there to help others and build trust and relationships. You need to write down things the people you're talking to find important.

2. No business cards

Another mistake that people make is when they go to a networking event and they don't bring their own business cards. Business cards are crucial in any type of business. If people are networking the right way, they will ask you about your business. If you don't have a business card to give them, they probably won't remember you or your business.

3. Not collecting cards

When you go to a networking event, you are there to meet other people and build trust with these people. When they trust you, they will be more inclined to buy your products or use your services. They will also feel more confident in referring people to you for business.

4. Not talking to others

When you go to networking meetings standing on the side and not talking to anyone is the worst thing you can do. You're there to talk to others and learn about other people and their businesses. You also need to hand out your business cards and collect cards from others.

The problem people have is they don't gather business cards. When you don't gather business cards you can't refer people to them. When that happens they are not build that trust with you. Most likely they will forget all about you. When that trust is not there, they more than likely will not send people to you or buy from you.

Networking is a great way to build trust. It is also the easiest way to build that trust. When people trust you they will likely buy your products or use your service and they will feel confident about referring others to your business. If you avoid these four mistakes, you will network successfully and your business will grow.
