Using Fire Pits to Enhance Networking
By Geoffrey Moore

Landing that dream job often depends on who a person knows as much it does on what a person knows, so networking with other people both inside and outside one's current employer is essential for getting ahead in this dog-eat-dog world. Parties, conventions, conferences, and other similar gatherings offer great opportunities for networking, and savvy workers will always look to maximize the networking potential of these events.

Putting together an office party is one of the best ways an individual can create networking opportunities. If one of these parties is held outdoors during the cold winter months, then the host will definitely want to consider making use of a quality fire pit to warm guests and make the event memorable. Guests who remember a gathering only for the extreme cold are not likely to have good associations with the host when they think of him or her, which will greatly hinder any potential networking relationships that might develop at the event.

In addition to the aforementioned warmth that fire pits can provide, having one of these handy instruments can be a great conversation piece to spark interaction with someone who can potentially help out the host's career. Persons who have never seen one of these pits before are quite likely to be intrigued by it and may ask questions, allowing the wise networker an opportunity to eventually segue the conversation to more job-oriented topics. Because of the warmth it provides, the fire that is built in one of these pits makes for an excellent place for a group of people to gather round and talk about the weather, sports, current events, and most importantly, their careers.

Those who are considering using a fire pit at a networking party or gathering should make sure that they have enough of the instruments on hand to keep everyone at the event warm. One will probably be enough if the gathering is small, but larger parties definitely need a few fire pits so that there are enough places for people to gather without feeling cramped and so that there is sufficient warmth during the event. Pits can be purchased relatively inexpensively, but it is also possible that a local party supplier has them available for rent. Either way, making these pits available at a networking event in the cold winter months can help make them success and thereby further the career aspirations of the party's host.
