Different Jobs, Same Respect

Rodger Datis, a 47-year-old man who takes care of some of the custodial services for the Hacienda La Puente education district, was running hectic at the Wilson education facility pulling containers filled with instructors’ documents, textbooks and garbage Thursday night.

That morning was the commencement of summertime labor that was awaiting the region’s custodial personnel, Rodger stated.

Datis, who is a worker in a number of the region’s facilities and head of the operations and maintenance, stated that 12 or 14 additional around the clock regular personnel, as well as he, will start cleaning and shining the school facilities within the next couple of days, although another team will start on the lasting four structures.

“There is the roofing project that needs to be finished by the beginning of next school year and the air conditioning substitute at the elementary facility,” Datis stated. “We will be rushing non-stop around the clock as well as communicating with the other activities taking place during the summertime session.”

Rodger stated clearing out a facility is far from a piece of cake, stating that it will take until September to complete all the tasks at hand. On the agenda; scrubbing off all of the gunk on the facilities walls, re-painting, and replacing any non-efficient appliances around the campus.

Datis stated that he wanted to finish the replacement of the air conditioning units before the heat of the summertime kicks in.

Freshman teacher Mary Martinez was placing the final touch on tagging, organizing and gathering possessions.

Martinez stated the summertime responsibilities she hops to get done and one is to seek further education, and it is not surprise that the other one is to just unwind.

“I had no idea how extreme teaching really was,” Martinez said. “I never have a quiet moment; I have never had a job position like this before.”

After all was said and done, Martinez stated that there was no doubt that she was returning for the upcoming session and that she wouldn’t have it another way. Stating that even though the position has its irritating moments, having wisdom to recognize that children are still growing and establishing who they are as an individual is the first step to becoming a great teacher.
