What is Employee Motivation?
By Munya Chinongoza
If you take a moment to think about, you will realize that the success of a business, any business as a matter of fact comes from motivated employees. You can look at any area from productivity and profits, liability to recruiting and retention, hardworking and happy employees lead to success.

Unfortunately for many business owners motivating people is not an exact science. In fact different methods of motivation, motivate people at different levels. Where as one employee may be motivated only by the thought of money. Another employee maybe motivated by possibly getting personal recognition for a job well done.

Yet again another person maybe motivated if they can get equity in the business in which they work for. What you can do to find out what can motivate your employees is simply ask them. Conduct a survey or a questionnaire that offers different motivation techniques or incentives for them to choose from, see what they select and use it to your advantage.

If you want to significantly reduce the turnover rates for your company and the expenses that come from recruiting, hiring, and training new staff you can do this by shifting the expenses that come along with hiring new employees to keeping and developing your current experienced ones.

For example, you can motivate an employee to increase their level of productivity by providing opportunities for career development. Any person would love the opportunity to move up in a company and get more authority. By doing this you have improved the employee’s skills and shown them recognition of the worker's value and aspirations. There some other motivating techniques that can be used, which include delegating responsibilities and giving them the opportunity to give their opinion when it comes to decision-making. Incentives such as pay increases, bonuses or benefits are factors that can also help motivate your employees.
