IRS Tax Help - Do You Qualify For Penalty Abatement?
By Richard Close

Tragic Tale... Robert has an unpaid tax bill of $40,000 with an additional $10,000 in penalties. With such a large payment looming, Bob feels smothered. Up until just recently, Bob and his wife were healthy and both working. Sadly, his wife was diagnosed with a serious illness, which left her unable to work. This illness has also left Bob with an ever-growing pile of medical bills to be paid, in addition to his IRS tax debt.

Is there any relief available? There is help. A tax situation similar to the one above could qualify for relief from the IRS in the form of penalty abatement. By researching his options, Bob and others like him may find that they qualify for special payment programs through the IRS including penalty abatement.

With a penalty abatement there is the possibility of up to a 30% reduction of what you owe. This is done by removing the penalties charges on the tax debt.

Show reasonable cause. In most severe or catastrophic situations, the IRS will at least consider an abatement request. Here are some of the categories that may give "reasonable cause" for a penalty waiver:

· Natural Disaster. You are a victim of or live in an area that was affected by a natural disaster i.e.: hurricane, flood, tornado, or earthquake.

· Serious illness to you or a family member

· Death of a family member

· Financial hardship due to the above or other circumstance out of your control

You may even qualify for penalty abatement if you relied on incorrect or inaccurate advice from the IRS...you heard me right, if they made a mistake they will not make you be responsible.

I See the Light...Take it from the IRS-Hitman, there is light at the end of the tunnel. With guidance you may be able to eliminate a large percentage of your tax burden by having penalties abated.

One more thing... Robert can use his wife's medical bills as deductions on his tax return, which could turn into a great help as hospital stays can run you into the $10's of thousands in cost, even with insurance.

Now you have the smoking gun...Use it!
