When you are a leader, it often happens that the sheer magnitude of things can plow you down. It might happen that you have to do too many things too soon and that might really put you out of whack. You are sure of not meeting all those goals and you are also quite skeptical of being able to accomplish even one of those tasks that are beckoning to you.
But, there is a way of doing all those tasks, and winning at them as well. Here is the strategy that effective leadership teaches you to adopt.
First and foremost, you need to chalk out a proper plan of what you need to achieve. You have to delineate three important things that you have to look into on a priority basis. Surely you have a hundred things vying for your attention right now, but sit down and think. There are three of these things that you need to do on an urgent basis, things that are of utmost importance to the functioning of your organization. Sit down and prepare this list of three important things that you have to first look into.
Once you have this list of three things ready, the next thing you need to do is to explain things to your team. You have to be succinct and precise here, and open-ended so that your team can come up with their suggestions.
Next, focus on one of these things at a time. Don't diversify your attention on everything at a time. Look at just one objective and put things into motion so that you can accomplish that one goal. Gather the faculties of your team and motivate them to work towards that objective. You will find that by doing this, you will be able to fulfill what you want. And when you have done that, you have to reorient your energies towards the accomplishment of the second goal.
A big mountain can intimidate anyone, but even you can conquer it if you focus on taking one stride at a time. This is what you have to do when you are banking on your effective leadership to inspire your team. Teach them to prioritize things and then take them one at a time, in smaller bites and not big gulps.
